Essential Clothing for a Namibia Safari: Outerwear, Swimsuits and Pajamas

So you’ve got your pants, shorts, and tops all packed—now it’s time to round things out with a few other essentials you really don’t want to forget.

Even though Namibia’s dry season means lots of sun and clear skies, mornings and evenings can still get chilly. A couple of lightweight outer layers made all the difference—especially on early drives and breezy dinners under the stars. I’m also sharing the pajamas and swimsuit I packed, because yes… some safari camps have pools, and yes, you’ll definitely want a cozy set to climb into after a long (dusty) day.

  1. Rain Jacket: Although June marks the start of the dry season in Namibia, there’s always a chance of unexpected rain. Even if the skies stay clear, having a lightweight rain jacket is perfect as an extra layer to block chilly winds during cold mornings. It’s super versatile, and the best part? It packs down small, so it won’t take up much space in your suitcase.
  2. Down Jacket: Don’t leave home without it! A good down jacket is like a warm hug on a chilly day—and the best ones pack down super small (some even fold into their own pocket!). We discovered this gem from Stellar while adventuring through Switzerland. It’s toasty warm and has nice long sleeves—no chilly wrists here! And good news: they ship to the U.S., so you can get one without hopping on a plane.
  3. Pajamas: These pajama sets from Lates by Kate are the best. They fit all heights and body types so well. They are so soft and they have pockets! At the last minute I also threw in a pair of shorts pajamas too just to have options. These were way more comfy than you would expect for $20!
  4. Swimsuit: Some camps have pools, and if the weather’s on your side, you’ll be glad you packed one! I’m a big fan of Beach Riot swimsuits—especially their high-waisted styles. They’re cute, comfy, and magically flattering without feeling frumpy. Perfect for when you want to feel stylish but still be able to jump in, chase the kids, and not worry about anything slipping out of place! They are a little more on the pricey side but they seem to have frequent sales on their website so keep checking: Eva Top and Emmy bottom are my fave.

And that’s a wrap on the final few essentials! From layering up for a cold sunrise drive to tossing on a swimsuit for a quick dip before dinner, these pieces helped keep things easy and comfortable the whole trip.
